About Flox Intelligence

The founders' story

The gap we saw. For years we worked in transportation, AI, and autonomous systems — and kept hitting the same quiet problem from two directions. Infrastructure was getting faster and busier, and the wild animals around it were running out of room. Trains and moose on the same track. Birds and aircraft in the same sky. Everyone shrugged it off as bad luck. It wasn’t. It was a gap nobody actually owned.

Why it bothered us. We love both sides of that collision — the technology and the wildlife — so watching them crash into each other was hard to sit with. The “solutions” were a hundred years old: fences animals walk around, noises they learn to ignore, and far too often, killing them. What we couldn’t shake was a simpler thought — animals are already telling each other where danger is. We just weren’t listening.

What we did about it. In 2020, Sara turned a spinoff from the AI lab at KTH in Stockholm into one question: what if we could understand how animals communicate, and use it to guide them away from harm, without hurting them? Three years into the journey, Tomas joined her. That became Flox Intelligence. We put AI engineers and wildlife biologists in the same room and spent thousands of hours in real fields and at real runways, getting it right one field season at a time.

Who it helps now. Today Flox Intelligence protects airports, railways, roads, and farms across North America and Europe — guiding tens of thousands of animals away from danger, keeping operations running, and keeping wildlife alive. We’re a global company with roots in Stockholm and global HQ in Syracuse, still driven by the belief we started with: humans and wildlife can share this planet without one paying the price for the other.
